Tips and Tricks

How do I hang my WindowArts?

  • All of our items are lightweight and can hang from medium-weight fishing line. So look up. Your store may have I-beams and ductwork that you can use. Or you can discreetly add small nails and/or hooks to walls and window trims, or try using tension rods. If you plan to swap out hanging window display art on a regular basis, we recommend using suspended metal gridwall panels for greatest flexibility.

Are these DIY kits?/Can I change up the design?

  • Yes. And yes. We want people to use our art to create their own artful displays. Thus we have tried to plan ahead for a variety of scenarios.

  • If you don’t do DIY, most WindowArts consist of pre-assembled pieces that you can simply unpack and hang. Depending on your ceiling height, you may need to get somewhat creative and shorten or add longer pieces of fishing line to hang at heights appropriate to your display.

  • However, you can also get as creative as you like. Please feel free to cut apart any of the strands and reassemble the component parts however you wish to best fit your space. Mix-and-match pieces from different sets that we offer. Or integrate with other props that you already own. We’d love to see what you come up with!

How do I know what quantity I will need?

  • Most of our pieces will look best when hung in mass, as unique textural accents, which is why we offer a more affordable rental option. But then, we like to think BIG!! We have thus assembled hanging clusters and garlands to each fill approximately 3 linear feet of window. Please note the dimensions included on each WindowArts listing and order in multiples for layering or for multiple windows.

  • The exact quantity that you will need will depend on the size of your display area, the items that will be featured with the art, and if you want the art to take center stage or blend into the background. You may want to cluster and create a central wow-factor, hang art off to the sides to frame a center merch display, or shorten strands and hang only above merchandise.

  • Also note that certain art pieces will look best when layered - meaning hanging pieces in front of one another to add depth and create texture. These are noted in the product listings.

Can I purchase WindowArts if not a small business or boutique?

  • Yes. Our initial concept was to serve small retail in an effort to contribute to the vibrancy of walkable streetscapes that are essential to community placemaking. But our designs can also be used as party props, photo backdrops and seasonal home decor.

Why a 60-day rental window?

  • Window displays are most effective at drawing in customers when changed out frequently. Some shops do this seasonally; others do it weekly; most switch things up monthly. We therefore selected a 60-day return window from date of purchase so that a display can be up in your shop for at least a month, plus allow for adequate shipping time.

  • For shops seeking seasonal display options, we also offer renting for a longer timeframe. Please note that our WindowArts are hand-made on demand, so for scheduling purposes, please let us know in advance if you plan to utilize this option.

What materials get upcycled into your designs?

  • Our supply of art materials is constantly evolving. Thus far, we have repurposed and upcycled cardboard boxes and packaging paper; thrift clothing, worn out linens and painters drop cloths; scrap wood and scrap acrylic leftover from projects at a local makerspace; scrap and remnant acrylic sheets from a local plastics supplier; surplus plumbing tubing; and post-consumer plastic bottles, jars, lids, coffee pods, light bulbs, old books, and a growing collection of random things with interesting textures.

Can you create custom designs?

  • Yes please! We love a creative challenge.

  • Many of our designs offer custom colorways, as noted in the product descriptions. Please feel free to send an inspiration board or photos of merchandise if you would like for us to replicate a selection in custom color palette.

  • And if you see something that sparks an idea….. that sparks another idea…. that makes you wonder if something else is possible…. please reach out! We can create something custom just for you. Or, depending on the design, can use your inspiration to create a new product to offer as part of our rental selections.

How does delivery work?

  • We’re still flushing out the details of this one. Currently, our initial WindowArts offerings are designed to be shipped in a medium-sized box anywhere in the United States. We are working on securing bulk shipping rates, which we will pass along to you. If you decide to do the rental option, you will be responsible for the return shipping back to us.

  • And since we think big, we want to move into offering large display art and free-standing pieces in addition to our boxed sets for mail-order. We are currently offering such design services for interested Front Range boutiques, or shops in other states willing to work with us to determine extra shipping costs for oversized items.

Love this idea. What can I do to help?

  • We are just starting to design fall and winter items. If you have an idea please reach out. Or, if you see us post something new onto our website or Instagram, you can reserve in advance as we anticipate a holiday rush. Please remember that all items are hand-made and one-of-a-kind, so we do not have unlimited inventory supply.

  • If you are a local Colorado artist and would like to have your work featured, please submit a sample and let’s get you added to our collection!

  • And finally, we’d love to gain traction on social media. If you like what arrives in your box, please post a photo of our art in your shop windows and include @tmusserdesign on your Instagram feed. We also welcome any reviews and feedback - positive or suggestions for improvements - as we continue to develop and flush out new designs.
